All hail the Iron Lords, who have delivered us from the evil that is Thorn and year 1 shotguns! Iron Banner is back for its Year 2 debut, and has been met with positive acclaim from players across all consoles- and for all the right reasons.
Once you’re rank 2, you’ll be able to get gear from the end of Iron Banner matches. Potential match completion rewards now include both weapons and armor, matching the same items available from Lord Saladin during each event.
Drop rates have been increased and are intended to be the primary source of rewards from Iron Banner. If you don’t get what you’re hoping for, you have the option to visit Lord Saladin instead.
FAQ: equipping Y1 Shader/Emblem does indeed increase your IB Rep gain.

What’s New
The monthly Crucible event has taken its place in the featured Crucible playlist this week, but this isn’t the same Iron Banner you’ve played before The Taken King. Crucible has been infamously littered with Y1 guns that aren’t very balanced, and Iron Banner has now changed all that, forcing participants to equip their new Taken King gear to achieve an optimal Light level (285+ is recommended).
Say farewell to all your favorite year one legendaries and exotics you love to use in crucible- and with the new 2.01 update- shot package has been removed, putting more emphasis on sidearms, snipers, and fusion rifles. What you’ll be seeing in Iron Banner will consist of only The Taken King rare, legendary, and exotic weapons- in addition to classic exotics that have been carried into Year two.
Teamwork is Key
While the new offensive subclasses for Titans and Warlocks have proved thrilling in standard Crucible, the teamwork based mechanics of Iron Banner give more breathing room to Defenders, Nightstalkers, and Sunsingers. Support subclasses provide both defensive and offensive advantages to their fireteams, without distributing heavy fire. Depending on preferences and strengths, offensive subclasses are also vital to Iron Banner, as they make up the aggressive front lines needed to capture well-defended zones.
Classic Control mode welcomes players of several play styles, but Iron Banner ensnares lone wolves and teams who avoid the objective. The new weekly and daily bounties that Lord Saladin bears encourage success and proficiency not only as an individual, but as a team. Idealy, one should play matches with a full fireteam of six, which would allow players to communicate enemy positions and vulnerable zones. Even without communication, matchmade fireteams should stick in groups, always making sure that your allies have cover fire, and someone to watch their back.
The Appeal
Iron Banner allows players to flaunt their high-level gear, while simultaneously proving their skills at PvP. Those who are bored with lackluster matches in standard Crucible and want some more challenge are invited to the test of the Iron Banner. Iron Banner demands teamwork, consistency, and dominance on the battlefield; where chivalry is an afterthought and savage multikills are as rewarding as ever.
With Tess Everis introducing new emotes, Iron Banner is sure to be sprawled with taunting Guardians and dancing fireteams. What’s your favorite Emote? Are you picking up this new Iron Banner gear? What do you think of the patch announced today? Let us know!
